What to know

The oldest continuously surviving rainforest on earth at around 180 million years, UNESCO listed, and the only place where two World Heritage areas meet - rainforest running straight down to the reef. The ferry across the Daintree River is charged per vehicle. SALTWATER CROCODILES inhabit every waterway in the tropical north, including ones that look nothing like crocodile habitat. Obey the signs absolutely - people are killed most years.

When to go

The planner warns of wet in January, February, March. Outside those months it says nothing, which is the point — a warning that fires every day is one nobody reads.
