UNESCO listed. A convict penal settlement of thirty-odd buildings on a peninsula, and a genuinely sobering place - the Separate Prison used total isolation and silence as punishment. Tickets are valid two consecutive days. The site was also the scene of the 1996 massacre, which the memorial garden marks and which staff will not discuss in detail; please respect that.
