A cable car from Chamonix to 3,842m in twenty minutes, with a glass box you step into over a kilometre of air. CLOSES AT NO NOTICE for wind or cloud, and in cloud there is nothing to see - check the webcam before you buy. THE ALTITUDE IS REAL: people faint. Go up slowly, and it is below freezing at the top in August.
