UNESCO listed, and the largest Buddhist temple in the world - built about 800 AD, abandoned, and buried under volcanic ash until 1814. THE PRICE GAP IS THE LARGEST IN THE PROJECT: foreigners pay roughly ten times the Indonesian rate. SINCE THE 2023 RESTRICTIONS you need a separate, capped, timed ticket with a guide and special sandals to climb to the upper terraces - the ordinary ticket only gets you to the base. The sunrise ticket from the neighbouring hotel is different again.
