UNESCO listed, and the great torii stands in the sea at high tide and on dry sand at low. CHECK THE TIDE TABLE BEFORE YOU GO - the two versions are completely different experiences and people arrive disappointed. There is a separate small island visitor tax on top of the ferry and the shrine fee. Deer roam here too.
