UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, and one of the largest manta aggregations on earth - up to 200 animals feeding at once in a bay the size of a football pitch, with whale sharks among them. THE CONSTRAINTS ARE STRICT AND ENFORCED: it is open roughly MAY TO NOVEMBER ONLY, SCUBA IS BANNED and you snorkel, a ranger permit is required, numbers in the water are capped, and time slots are rationed when boats are queuing. THE AGGREGATION DEPENDS ON PLANKTON AND TIDE and does not happen on demand - people book a week nearby and see it once, or not at all.
