No admission charge for anyone. Parking or transport may still cost.

What to know

FREE to walk up. The roof is a continuous slope of white marble rising straight out of the fjord and you are meant to walk on it - there are no railings and no signs telling you to keep off. Guided tours of the inside are charged. In winter the marble is treacherous with ice.

When to go

The planner warns of freezing in January, February, December. Outside those months it says nothing, which is the point — a warning that fires every day is one nobody reads.

Short days. Oslo & the eastern valleys gives under 6 hours of daylight in December.
