FREE. Part of the Death Railway built by Allied prisoners and Asian forced labourers for the Japanese in 1942-43, at a cost of around 100,000 lives. YOU CAN WALK ACROSS IT and step into refuges when a train comes. It is a memorial as much as an attraction and the souvenir stalls at one end sit oddly with that.
