The only mainland breeding colony of royal albatross in the world - a 3m wingspan, gliding past the observatory window. The birds are present most of the year but the CHICK-VIEWING AND FLYING SEASONS VARY; the colony closes to visitors for part of September. Windy days are better, because they need wind to fly.
