Tens of thousands of people on one beach, monthly, on or around the full moon. ACCOMMODATION ON THE ISLAND IS BOOKED OUT AND PRICED ACCORDINGLY for several nights either side, so check the lunar calendar before booking Koh Phangan for any reason. Drink spiking and theft are real risks; the rest of the island is genuinely peaceful and quite different.
