What to know

The largest unmodified wetland in New Zealand, and home to the rarest kiwi - about 600 rowi exist. Guided night walks have a high success rate but nothing is promised. Kayaking at dawn with the Southern Alps behind is the other reason to come. SANDFLIES are a genuine problem on the West Coast and in Fiordland - not a nuisance but a trip-shaping one. Cover up and take repellent.
